Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this position is responsible for the day to day activities, coordination and evaluation of the Business Unit human resource function. The position will serve as a consultant to Business Unit’s senior executives and management on all HR matters and support the overall business strategy, including recruitment, training, development, employee relations, performance recognition and compliance with federal and state regulations. 





  • Implements and administers comprehensive human resources management programs, policies, guidelines and procedures for the business unit, consistent with corporate programs, state and federal requirements and sound professional principles and practices; provides expert advice to managers and supervisors on a wide range of human resource management issues and practices.
  • Work with business unit Management on keeping the pulse of the organization – continually developing employee engagement and alignment with company objectives.
  • Partner with corporate HR functional areas to guide business unit management through the annual merit and performance review processes, succession management and other various cyclical processes.
  • Leads and mentors the HR team to effectively partner with business leaders to achieve results in support of the business initiatives including recruitment, employee relations, problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Partner with Talent Management and Training and Development to acquire, train and develop diverse and high performing talent to drive current and future business initiatives. 
  • Provides direction to senior leadership for staff training and development.
  • Directs recruitment and selection activities for all business unit positions; collaborates with the Total Rewards department on the development and maintenance of job evaluation and compensation plans for employees; approves completed job descriptions.
  • Responsible for the management and resolution of employee relations issues and work-related problems that can affect employee morale and productivity. 
  • Directs the investigation and resolution of discrimination and other complaints; represents the business unit in dealing with state and federal compliance agencies and in hearings and litigation on employment matters. 
  • Counsels managers and staff to understand and apply the organization’s policies and    regulations compliant with federal and state laws in a fair, consistent and equitable manner. 
  • Interprets corporate policies, procedures and precedents for managers and employees.
  • Monitors developments in areas of responsibility; analyzes proposed state and federal law, regulations and court decisions for their impact on human resources management practices and operations; implements policy and procedure changes consistent with requirements; directs or conducts research and analysis of human resource and employee relations needs, recommends appropriate actions and implements programs.
  • Participate in business management meetings to bring HR expertise to business discussions and provides input on implications for staff, identification of organizational needs, and implementation of human resources programs that will enable successful execution of business strategies. 




  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field of study with an emphasis in Human Resources preferred.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible human resource management experience, including at least five of which were in a supervisory or human resources program management capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP desired
  • Active listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying.  Taking time to understand points being made.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written communications, as well as ability to interact with all levels of organization
  • Theory, principles, practices and techniques of human resources management, including recruitment, testing, selection, equal employment opportunity, employee relations, job analysis/job evaluation, compensation, benefits design and administration, employee and management development, and performance planning and appraisal.
  • Federal, state and local laws, regulations and court decisions applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Principles and practices of business administration, including budgeting, purchasing and records maintenance.
  • Research methods and analysis techniques.
  • Corporate functions and associated human resource management issues.
  • Trends and practices in human resource management.
  • Principles and practices of effective management and supervision.
