Position Summary

Resolves all types of the most serious losses, heavy commercial property losses or other assigned losses by investigating and negotiating settlements.


  • Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages.
  • Conducts on-site investigations of claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, by inspecting physical damage, and by comparing claim information with evidence.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford & Company.
  • Settles claims after determining insurance carrier’s liability, client’s instructions, and authority levels.
  • Makes offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
  • Controls claim costs and sets loss reserves.
  • Maintains company reputation and insurance product integrity by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • May assist and mentor junior adjusters with claims handling.
  • Utilizes available technology/automation to maximize claim handling efficiency.


  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive, substantive experience as an outside Property Claims Adjuster; preferred a minimum of 6 years prior claims experience handling losses in excess of $500,000.
  • Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced user experience with Xacitmate.
